Nanking Cherry (Prunus tomentosa)

Nanking cherry is a fast growing, medium sized spreading shrub reaching 10-15’ high and wide. It produces small red cherries that are sweet/tart in taste and great for fresh eating or processing into preserves. Nanking cherry is adaptable to just about any site. It handles extreme cold as well as extreme heat and is tolerant of very windy sites and will grow in the vast majority of soils. The early spring blossoms are unbothered by frosts and will reliably produce fruit. This is a really tough plant that is a great addition to any food forest, orchard, wildlife planting or ornamental bed. We offer bare root seedlings approximately 12” tall. Plant two or more for best pollination. Hardy to zone 3.
