Who We Are

Humble Roots Tree Farm is a small permaculture nursery nestled in the beautiful finger lakes region of upstate NY. We are passionate about growing fruit and nut trees and other useful perennials. Our mission is to offer healthy, versatile plants that will help people establish food production systems while also creating beauty, regenerating the land on which they grow and lessening our collective dependance on conventional agriculture.

How We Grow

Our hope is that the land we grow on will be left in better condition than when we bought it. We want to regenerate the soil as well as increase local wildlife habitat and biodiversity. For that reason, we choose to grow without the use of any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.

Our nursery is located on a plot of land that was conventionally farmed for many years and most recently used as horse pasture. All of this has left the native heavy clay soil depleted, extremely compacted and in desperate need of regeneration. We are working to build up the soil across the whole property and bring back biodiversity both below and above ground. We currently grow our nursery inventory in air prune beds where we can use a healthy soil that allows the plants to grow well and be harvested without damage.
