Mexican Plum (Prunus mexicana)
Mexican plum is a small, native tree growing 10-25 feet tall. It is similar in many ways to the more well known American plum, but tends to grow as a single stem without the suckering habit. If you don’t have the space for a thicket forming American plum, Mexican plum could be a great option. The beautiful spring blossoms are white and fragrant. The fruits are small, but delicious and excellent for preserves in addition to fresh eating. A fantastic, low maintenance plant for food forests or native gardens. Mexican plums are self fertile, but having a second seedling nearby will produce a larger fruit set. They are tolerant of many soils and drought resistant once established. We offer bare root seedlings about 16” tall. Hardy to zone 6.
Prunus species cannot be shipped to Colorado.
