Black walnut is a remarkable tree, with a host of uses. The most notable being it's timber and edible nuts. The wood is valued for its deep rich color and decent rot resistance. The edible nuts are packed with protein and nutrients and offer excellent flavor. The shells are typically very hard to crack, which makes accessing the kernels a little tedious, but we have found our kids love to sit with us while we crack the nuts and snack on the bits of nut meat!
It’s worth noting that black walnuts produce a compound called juglone that appears to have a negative effect on some other plants. It may be best to locate them away from annual gardens in order to avoid any incompatibility.
Black walnut will grow well in a wide range of soils and sites. Generally hardy from zones 4-9.
Please note: Our inventory is an estimate and orders will be filled in the order they were received. Should we run out of stock before your order is filled we will issue a full refund.
