American Plum Seedlings (Prunus americana)
American Plum is a very tough plant that is widely adaptable to different soils, including heavy clay, and will tolerate partial shade. It typically grows to a height of 10-20' as a small multi stemmed tree or shrub, spreading over time via root suckers, which can be controlled by mowing or left to become a thicket. In the spring it displays wonderful, fragrant white blossoms. The edible fruits are small, but tasty and can be eaten fresh or used in jellies, preserves and wines. It's growth rate is fast and once established can withstand browse quite easily making it a good perimeter plant to distract wildlife life from more valued plants. It also acts as a pollinator for other plums and can be used as a rootstock for grafting desired plum cultivars onto. This is an excellent dual purpose plant that offers much to humans and wildlife. Plant at least two for best pollination. These are one year, bare root seedlings and are 12-18" tall. Hardy to zone 4.
Prunus species cannot be shipped to Colorado.
