American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana)
American Persimmon is a large, native tree growing up to 80’ tall. The orange fruit is ripe late in the season when very soft. It is very sweet and almost caramel like in flavor. It goes very well with other fall flavors and foods. The fruit is highly desirable to wildlife as well as people, which makes this a great tree for food plots, wildlife habitat or food forest plantings. Persimmon is a versatile tree, it can handle a wide variety of soil conditions and will tolerate some shade as well, though it will produce best in well drained, fertile soil with full sun. Persimmons are dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate trees. A male and female are required to bear fruit. We offer unsexed, bareroot seedlings at least 12” tall. We recommend planting several to increase the odds of having both male and female trees. Hardy in zones 5-8.
